It is of the soap nut family, commonly known as four leaved soapnut, it is known as Karap in Marathi. A fairly common tree in Matheran, one is seen opposite the main entrance to Rugby Hotel. It is an evergreen tree, up to 15 m in height. Leaves paripinnate, alternate, compound, with 2-5 pairs of leaflets. It’s flowers in Feb and fruits appear in early May or end April, it is velvety.
