Family : Moraceae.

Common name is Indian Bat fig. It is a large evergreen tree or semi-deciduous tree, growing up to 25 m in height. It can be recognized by it’s dense spread of aerial roots that are that are generally wrapped around the top of the trunk. It can also be recognized by a long leaf stalk up to 1.5 to 5 cm long. The leaves are broadly ovate elliptic-lanceshaped to ovate-oblong in shape with a blunt or pointed tip and an entire margin. The fruits are small, stalkless figs 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter, light green initially, ripening to red or purple. The color of the bark is greenish grey. I came across this tree on the ridge path between Sunset point and Coronation point.
