It is one of the most dominant trees found in Matheran. Seen everywhere. The flower is extremely beautiful, beyond description, a delight to the heart. It flowers profusely in the months of February and March. Fruit are seen in May-June and are quite safe to eat. The forest floor is covered with these fruits. Leaves are thick and glossy. Leaves were used as a dye of a light brown colour. It plays an important role in preserving the top soil, it takes over the forest when other trees are cut.
