Marathi name is Chanda, common name is Shield-leaf tree. What is unique of this tree is that the leaves are what is called peltate. The leaf is like an umbrella, where the stalk is attached not to the end of the leaf, but to the center of the lower surface of the leaf. It is a medium sized tree growing up to 10 m tall. Flowers occur in long panicles (a loose branching cluster of flowers). It flowers in January to February.
