Olea Dioica


Common name is Rose Sandalwood or Wild Olive. It is an evergreen tree of the Oleaceae family.

It is a medium sized tree, growing up to 15 meters in height. Bark is grey and smooth. Leaves are simple, opposite, oblong-elliptic, serrated and are pointed at both ends. Flowers are very small and grow in panicles. Flowering is from January – March. In January witnessed profuse flowering, much of the forest floor was covered with these tiny flowers. Flowers are greenish white. Fruits look like jambul, are not eaten, very bitter, locals call it Kadva Jambul.
