Syzygium cumini

Common name is Jamun or black plum. They are one of the most conspicuous trees on the hill top. You see them all around. The percentage of jamun trees is 25%. Many of the trees are tall and have a very broad bark, probably a couple of hundred years old. The fruits though small in size do not have an unpleasant sensation in the throat like fruit obtained from other places. Consuming Jamun is known to be good for diabetics. The Hill Station is also known for it’s Jamum honey which is collected by locals from honey combs hanging from the cliffs.
